The following is a sample of our computer simulations involving transportation accidents:
Auto vs. Pedestrian 2Two pedestrians run out into an uncontrolled intersection at night, and the second pedestrian is hit by a Volvo. The viewpoints of the various parties is depicted. |
Unsafe Lane ChangeA tractor trailer makes an unsafe lane change into a Lexus. The viewpoints of the various parties is depicted.
Pedestrian AccidentImproper Driver Actions. A young motorist is driving when a bunny hops out into the roadway. The motorist panics and swerves to avoid the bunny but travels up onto the sidewalk, crashing into a fence, a pedestrian and a light pole. The injury patterns are demonstrated.
Auto vs. BicycleUnsafe left turn. A motorist turns left in front of a bicycle causing a collision. The cyclist did not have a headlight but the scene was sufficiently illuminated to allow the motorist to see the cyclist. The pickup truck was equipped with a custom built lumber rack which caused extensive injuries to the cyclist during the collision. Biomechanics are explained.
Motorcycle AccidentSpeeding Motorcycle. A motorcyclist traveling 64 to 70 mph on a 55 mph roadway decides to lay down his motorcycle. The excessive speed of the motorcycle prohibits the driver of a car making a left turn from seeing the motorcycle at the time he initiates his left turn. Had the motorcycle been traveling at or near the speed limit, the collision would not likely have occurred.
Bicycle AccidentHelmet Issue. A bicyclist was riding on a street when the battery on his electric bicycle came loose and fell to the ground. The bicyclist applied the front brakes and was ejected. He landed on a part of his head that would have been protected if he had been wearing a helmet.
Pedestrian Accident at NightA pedestrian runs into the roadway directly in front of a vehicle. The vehicle reacts by swerving and braking, but is still unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.
Head-on CollisionConstruction Zone. A sedan was traveling through a construction zone when the driver lost control, traveled over the median and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
Failure to Stop for a Stop SignFailure to stop. A van fails to stop at a stop sign and collides with oncoming traffic. The van takes a tight turn onto the highway indicating he had no intention of stopping.
Tractor-Trailer vs. PedestrianNighttime accident involving a tractor trailer getting to close to the break down lane. One pedestrian was thrown over the side of the car, while the other two ducked for cover. Includes driver and pedestrian perspectives.
Inattentive DriverInattentive Driver. A motorist playing with their radio, closes in on a fellow motorist much too fast and loses control of their vehicle. The impact with the center divider caused the airbag to deploy. The injuries sustained by the driver posed the question: Was the driver seat belted?
Unrestrained OccupantVideo comparing an unrestrained passenger versus a restrained passenger showing the typical injuries associated with an accident.
Rear-End CollisionA nighttime collision involving a stalled vehicle being rear ended by a non attentive driver. Includes light-enhanced perspective and driver perspectives.
Bus CollisionRed Light Dispute. A Volvo station wagon entered the intersection at the same time as a bus. The force of the impact and the driver's reaction caused the bus to swerve to the right, crash into a tree, and then into the side of a hotel.
Unsafe PassingUnsafe passing. A motorist under the influence enters into the opposite lane of travel in order to pass a tractor-trailer. As a result, an oncoming vehicle swerves onto the dirt shoulder to avoid a collision and over-corrects to get back on the highway and loses control of their vehicle.
Unsafe Left TurnUnsafe left-turn. In heavy traffic, the number one and two lanes stopped to allow a vehicle to make a left-turn. The vehicle did not check the number three lane resulting in a collision.
Alleyway AccidentLine of Sight. A motorist hits a young pedestrian as a result of having his line of sight limited by the buildings. Using a still photo taken in a condominium complex, this simulation shows the integration of computer generated models in a real scene.
Right of WayStop sign right of way dispute. Defendant claims to have stopped at the stop sign while the plaintiff claims he did not.
Pickup vs. PedestrianA pedestrian at rest is struck slightly by a white pickup truck due to driver inattention.
Bus-Pedestrian AccidentA pedestrian tries to get wave down a bus, but the driver did not see the pedestrian, and the pedestrian is struck by the bus.
Vehicle vs. PedestrianUnsafe Speed. A van traveling at 35 mph in 25 mph speed zone struck a child who was jogging across the street. The accident would have been avoided if the van had been traveling at the posted speed limit.
Intersection CollisionRight of Way. A van driver came to a stop at a freeway off-ramp, looked to his left and decided that he had time to make a left turn in front of an oncoming sedan. An impact ensued, causing the sedan to veer onto the center island and hit a light pole.
Vehicle vs. BicycleInattention. An SUV making a right turn and then a left turn at an offset intersection collided with a bicyclist riding on the street. Had the SUV braked, the driver would have had enough time to stop without hitting the bicyclist.
Motorcycle AccidentUnsafe Speed. A motorcyclist traveling at 56 to 65 mph collided with a water truck that was attempting to make a left turn. The motorcyclist could have safely come to a stop if he had been traveling at the posted speed limit of 45 mph.
Unsafe Lane ChangeUnsafe Lane Change. A van driver lost control of the van while driving next to a tractor-trailer. The van impacted the side of the trailer, flipped onto its side and slid in front of the tractor-trailer before being struck by the tractor.
Freeway CollisionFreeway Merging. A motorcyclist approached the rear of a vehicle that was merging onto the freeway. The motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle because he was approaching too rapidly, fell to the ground and was run over by a dump truck.
